What is an inheritance?
An inheritance is what a good father leaves for his children.
Proverbs 13:22 says:
” A good man leaveth an inheritance to his children’s
children: and the wealth of the sinners is laid for the just.”
In other words, not only would he leave something for his children, he would leave so much that his children would have something to inherit.
Who can inherit?
Automatically, children, not Servants and not slaves, If you are a child of God, then you can inherit God. That is why I am happy that I am a child of God. The bible says in John 1:11-12:
“He came unto his own, and his own received him not.
But as many as received him, to them he gave he power to become the son of God,
Even to them that believe on his name.”
If you are genuinely born again then you area a child of GOD. And of course, if you are not born again and you say you are a child of God, you are just deceiving yourself. If you say you are born again and you are still living in sin, you are deceiving yourself.
If you are a child of God, then you are an heir of God, according to Romans 8:16-17
“The spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God:
And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that
We suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together.”
Now, if you are truly a child, then you are an heir of God.
What can we inherit?
Everything your father has, you can inherit. So, everything my daddy in Heaven has, I can inherit.
What are the things my Daddy has?
The bible says in Psalm 24:1
“The earth is the LORD’s, and the fullness thereof:
The world, and they that dwell therein.”
In other words, the whole world belongs to my Daddy and so I can inherit the whole world. In Haggai 2:8, God Himself declares that silver and gold belong to Him. This means all the money in the world belongs to my Daddy and therefore I can inherit all of it.
If I can inherit all of it and there are some unbelievers that are still keeping this money, it means supernaturally, one way or the other, either these unbelievers become born again so that we can spend the money together, or the money will leave their pockets and come into my pocket and those of other children of God.
In psalm 50:10-11, the Almighty God said that the cattle on a thousand hills belong to Him. In fact, he said all the wild beasts of the earth belong to him. Everything in this world belongs to my Daddy so I can inherit all of it.
However, not all children can inherit their father. Why?
(i)Some are wise while some are foolish. In Proverbs 3:35 The Bible says the wise shall inherit glory but fools shall inherit shame. It says shame shall be the promotion of fools. The wise ones will inherit glorious things and the foolish once will inherit shameful things.
(ii) The second reason why some children will not inherit their father is that they waste their inheritance even while on this earth.
While the father is still living, they waste their inheritance. Some people for example have good voices and instead of using such to sing and to praise God, they waste their Voices in talking. Some people have opportunities to witness but they waste the opportunities.
Some people have money but instead of spending the money for the course of the kingdom, the waste money in throwing parties and doing unless things.
For some people, their parents left them inheritance but they did not bother to ask for them. The inheritance is there. It is theirs but they just could not bother to ask.
The bible says in James 4:2 that some people have not because they ask not and then in verse 3 it says some people ask amiss that is why they do not have. The inheritance of God for us in two categories.
There are some that you can enjoy while here on earth and then there are those that you will enjoy when you get to Heaven. Over there for example, we are not going to spend naira. Everything you need is already provided.
There is no hunger there. There is no thirst there. You do not need to buy petrol there because we will be riding chariots of fire.
He said silver and gold are his own but some to us do not even ask. Some of us ask amiss. If you want to inherit the All-sufficient one, there are certain things you must do.
Number one, you must be wise because it is the wise that will inherit glory. How do you show that you are wise.
According to Psalm 11:10, the fear of the lord is the beginning of wisdom. To show to the Almighty God that you are wise you must fear Him. You must honor Him. If you really want to be wise, you will fear Him. You will come into his presence respectfully and whenever you are in his presence, you will do things that will make Him appreciate the fact that you know his presence.
You will also show that you are wise in winning souls. Proverb 11:30 says he that wins souls is wise. In other words, if you have not been winning souls you are saying you are not wise.
Number two, make sure that you do not ever backslide because any backslider will be disinherited.
Number three is that you must ask at least for that part of the inheritance that you can receive while here on earth. In John 14:14, Jesus Christ said whatever you ask in His Name He Will do it.
In Proverbs 13:22, the bible says the wealth of the wicked are stored bup for the just. In other words, if you ask God for all the wealth of the wicked to come to you, you are asking right. Psalm 2:8 says:
“Ask of me, and I shall give theee the heathen for thine inheritance, and the utrermost parts of
The earth for thy possession.”
